London American University College offers three (3) year diploma programme for Registered Nursing (RN). This diploma Programme is under the School of Nursing and the programme is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ).
Aim
To train a nurse who will be self-directed, analytical, knowledgeable, skilful and responsive to changing health needs and emerging diseases and contribute towards improving the quality of care provided to “individuals, families and communities in Zambia”.
Programme Objectives
- Assess the health needs of individuals, families, groups, and communities using various nursing models in line with available technology.
- Apply knowledge from behavioural and biomedical sciences in managing patients and clients in various healthcare settings.
- Demonstrate understanding of the research process by initiating and conducting operational research on identified health priorities.
- Demonstrate management and leadership skills and work in a multi-disciplinary and team approach.
- Work in partnership with individuals, families, groups and communities in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating health care.
- Recognize and accept the needs for self-direction, professional awareness and continued professional growth.
- Apply various innovative methods of learning and education in order to be self-directed in addressing different healthcare issues.
- Apply knowledge of information technology in their nursing practice.
- Serve as a role model and mentor in the nursing profession and community.
- Be proactive and assertive in their learning process and nursing practice.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirements for school leavers into this programme shall be:
- Senior secondary education certificate or its equivalents with 5 ‘0’ levels at a credit or better.
- Three (3) ‘0’ level compulsory subjects in English language, Mathematics or any Science subject with any two (2) subjects.
- The minimum entry age shall be 16 years.
Career Options
When students graduate, they can work anywhere in the world as registered bedside nurses in any department such as paediatric wards, surgical wards, and maternal and child departments. They can also work as nurse prescribers, medical assistant and can participate in research and also be part of the medical emergency response team during disaster and emergencies (outbreaks).
